Obituary for James Douglas "Doug" Riddle
James Douglas “Doug” Riddle, age 63, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, formerly of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, North Carolina. He was born November 30, 1951, in Caldwell, son of the late Dean Delbert and Vivian L. Hammond Riddle. He was a 1970 graduate of Caldwell High School, and he served in the Ohio National Guard. Doug was employed by the former Gould plant in Caldwell, the Pilot Travel Center in Caldwell, and Clewell’s Auto Sales. He also served as a substitute bus driver for Noble Local Schools. He was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, the Caldwell VFW Post #4721, and he served on the Caldwell Village Council for many years. Doug was a devoted sportsman, and he coached girls’ softball, 4th and 5th grade basketball, and biddy league football in Caldwell. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Anita Riddle.
Surviving are his children, James (Jodie) Wheeler and Jennifer Wheeler, both of Sunbury, and Jason (Jera) Riddle of Greenwich; two brothers, David Riddle and Dennis (Sandy) Riddle, both of Caldwell; his former wife, Sue Riddle of Caldwell; his step-mother, Joy K. Riddle of Zanesville; 5 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
