Obituary for James D. Waite, Jr.
James D. Waite, Jr., age 89, of Cumberland, Ohio, died Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care in Zanesville. He was born October 23, 1927, in Renrock, son of the late James D. and Susie Spears Waite, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany following World War II. James drove a milk truck, owned and operated a garage, and worked in coal mines. He retired in 1994 from the maintenance department at Muskingum University in New Concord, and he owned and operated a family farm for many years. He was a member of the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, and he enjoyed hunting and working on cars. He was a wonderful husband and father to his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Joseph B. Waite, who died October 28, 2013; two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Clark and Joel Law; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Reed Waite, whom he married March 4, 1951; his children, Linda D. (Larry) Clark of Reinersville, Debora E. (Jim) Ray of McConnelsville, Mike (Carolyn) Waite of Cumberland, and Karen E. (David) Law of Caldwell; one brother, Roger (Marcella) Waite of Coshocton; a daughter-in-law, Velma I. Waite of Byesville; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Saturday, September 2, 2017, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM with Pastor David Wells officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Ark Springs Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
