Obituary for Jack Richard Long
Jack Richard Long, age 74, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at his residence. He was born June 27, 1931, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, son of the late Tip and Lydia Long Long Laws. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Long was a licensed stationary steam engineer and had worked nine years as a custodian at Caldwell Elementary School. He was also employed as an inspector/packer for the Dana Corporation in Caldwell. Mr. Long was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Caldwell, where he was baptized in 1954, and he was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan, having raced stock cars in his younger years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Powers and Billie Sue Smith. Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean Keck Long, whom he married August 17, 1954; one son, David A. (Teresa) Long of Caldwell; one daughter, Melinda Jean Archer of Caldwell; one sister, Mrs. Ulis (Bobbie Sue) Price of Speedwell, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Mrs. Wayne (Maria Jean) Sparkman, John and Edward Porter, and Dawna and Korinna Long; four great-grandchildren, Brenda and Brieann Giffin and Jared and Megan Porter; three step-great-grandchildren, Ian, Cameron, and Normandy Sparkman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be held on Friday, October 21 at 1PM with Pastors Paul Hoover and John Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Caldwell VFW Post #4721 and Belle Valley American Legion Post #641. Memorials may be made to the Main Street Church of Christ 631 Main Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724, in Mr. Long's memory.
