J. Warren Martin, age 90, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. He was born December 29, 1920, near Whigville, son of the late Earl and Ellen West Martin. He was a 1939 graduate of Sarahsville High School, and he was a World War II Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He retired as a truck driver from Merchants 5 Star in Marietta. Mr. Martin was a member of the American Legion Post #641 in Belle Valley and the VFW Post #472 in Caldwell. He was an avid Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavs fan. He enjoyed gardening, working around his house, working crossword puzzles, and being with his dog, Abby.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Martin, whom he married January 9, 1959, and who died August 14, 2004.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Cheryll Hamilton of Mineral Wells, West Virginia; three step-sons, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Clark of Reynoldsburg, Andy Clark of Caldwell, and Mr. and Mrs. Allec Clark of Mineral Wells, West Virginia; two half-sisters, Mrs. George (Dama) Burkhart and Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Lafferee, both of Woodsfield; one half-brother, Richard "Dick" Martin of Woodsfield; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 11AM to 1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow at 1PM with Ken Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Hiramsburg Cemetery. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belle Valley American Legion, 131 Brown Street, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717, or to the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 16, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717.
