Obituary for J. Lewis Stevens
J. Lewis Stevens, age 98, of Senecaville, (Mt. Ephraim community) died Sunday,April 15, 2007, in Worthington, Ohio. He was born December 3, 1908 in Harriettsville, Ohio, son of the late Samuel and Minnie Yonnly Stevens. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens with a degree in education. He taught for 35 years in the Noble Local School District, many of those years serving as principal and teacher at the former Batesville High School. Following his retirement, he became one of the original directors of the GMN Tri-County CAC in Caldwell. He was a member of the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church and the Noble County Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Stevens owned and operated a family farm near Mt. Ephraim for many years, and he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and former students. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Riggs Stevens, whom he married February 15, 1936, and who died July 23, 1991; three brothers, Erval, Rufus and Carl Stevens; and three sisters, Addie Noll, Ora Lindemood and Grace Craven. Surviving are one daughter, Martha (Gary) Walker of Westerville; two grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Langenheim of Cincinnati and Denise (Michael)Ferro of Texas; 4 great-grandchildren, John Langenheim, Kristy Langenheim and Alex Moenck of Cincinnati and Laura Bish of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday, April 19, 2007, from 12PM-2PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where services will be on Thursday, April 20 at 2PM with the Rev. Thomas Gruver officiating. Burial will follow at Stafford Cemetery.
