Obituary for Ira Lloyd Wickham
Ira Lloyd Wickham, age 93, of Senecaville, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Autumn Healthcare in Cambridge. He was born September 21, 1916, in Meigs Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, son of the late Charles Leonard and Elizabeth Oatha Lizzie McClurg Wickham. He was a graduate of Meigs High School, and he owned and operated a family farm for many years. He was formerly employed by the Alloy Plant in Philo, he was a self-employed carpenter, and he was also employed by Carl Rittburger, Sr. Meats, and Monroe Grading. He was an electrician for Bucyrus Erie during the construction of the Big Muskie and he was also employed by Kaiser Chemical in the mixhouse at Central Ohio Coal Company. He retired as an employee from Central Ohio Coal Company. He attended the Senecaville United Methodist Church, and he was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He loved carpentry, especially crafting picnic tables and swings, and he loved playing horseshoes. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Belle Pickenpaugh Wickham, whom he married March 19, 1940, and who died January 8, 2008; one sister, Anna Laura Wickham Shetler; and one brother, Ivan Lee Wickham.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Anna (David) Sayre of Senecaville; two sons, Charles Dean (Iris Kay) Wickham of Caldwell and Elvin Lee (Janet Kay) Wickham of Senecaville; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Wickham, David (Lisa) Wickham, Eric (Colleen) Wickham, Tara (John) Abramson; Dwayne (Rita) Sayre, Lydia (Andy) Howald, and Rachel (Tom) Perkins; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday, July 9, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Saturday, July 11th at 10AM with Pastor Tom Gruver officiating.
