Obituary for Herman Wilson Gordon
Herman W. Gordon, age 99, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born July 10, 1914, near Summerfield, son of the late Jesse and Myrtle King Gordon. During the depression, Mr. Gordon worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in West Virginia. He retired in 1979 as a driller for B&N Coal Company in Dexter City. He was a member of Road Fork Baptist Church, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Poling Gordon, whom he married September 23, 1935, and who died January 6, 1998; one daughter, Myrtle Jane Berry; an infant brother, Wylie Gordon; two brothers, Willard and Richard Gordon; and two sisters, Cleo Hutchins and Mary Leonard. Surviving are one son, Herman “Junior” (Patricia) Gordon of Sarahsville; two brothers, Jim (Jean) Gordon and Cecil Lloyd Gordon; one sister; Helen Bates; five grandchildren, Sharon Davis, John Gordon, Lisa Gordon, Jane Combs, and Jeremiah Gordon; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday, July 19, 2013, from 5-8PM and Saturday, July 20th from 10 -11 AM, at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. A graveside service will be observed at 11:30AM Saturday at East Union Cemetery following visitation with Pastor George Clark officiating. An online guestbook may be signed at www.mcvay-perkins.com.
