Obituary for Herbert L. Hamilton
Herbert L. Hamilton, age 76, of Cumberland, Ohio, died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at his home of cancer. Herb was born in Ava on December 4, 1943, to Herbert G. and Ruth Brown Hamilton. At an early age, he was helping the farmers around the area. He loved working, especially farming. He then went to work for Carl Rittberger. At age 17, he went to work with his dad for V. N. Halderman, building interstates and working for C. M. Luburgh. Wanting to be closer to home, Herb went to work for Central Ohio Coal Company, operating all kinds of equipment. He retired following forty years of service. He was a member of UMWA, #1604, the NRA, and the AQHA. On October 22, 1988, he married Cookie and Michael McIntire. Together, they raised cattle, horses, hogs, and goats. Herb, along with his partner Cookie, loved going to horse and farm sales and eating at Mrs. Yoder’s in Amish country. They also enjoyed cleaning the land, burning brush, gardening, baling hay, and working with the livestock. He loved operating heavy equipment and his tractors. He was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his best friend and soul mate, his wife Dianna “Cookie” McIntire Hamilton; his children, daughter Valerie (Marty) Wallace; sons Shawn Hamilton and Michael McIntire; grandchildren, Kyle Foster, Laykin Hamilton (Austin Schockling), and Troy Hamilton; his brothers Ben (Doris) Hamilton, Lynn Hamilton, and Trent (Vicki) Hamilton; sister Trena (Jeff) Graves; sister-in-law Stella Hamilton; several nieces and nephews; Valerie and Shawn’s mother Becky (Jim) Shaw; guard companion Boone; and many good friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Hamilton; their horse, P.J.; and a beloved dog, Shredder.
