Obituary for Harold Thomas VanScyoc
Harold Thomas VanScyoc, age 81, of Sarahsville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord May 15, 2011, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born April 8, 1930, in Mt. Olivet, Belmont County, son of the late Stanley William and Helen Gertrude Kilgore VanScyoc. He was a 1948 graduate of Barnesville High School, and married Erma Ann Sarkady on October 1, 1950. He was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1953-1955. Mr. VanScyoc operated numerous business ventures in his lifetime. He owned and operated the Shell Service Station in Barnesville, and he was a dairy farmer. He was an inspector for United Dairy Company and he was the Noble County Health Department Inspector. He was owner and operator of Noble Sanitation until he retired from the business in 1991 so that he could travel with his wife in their RV. Mr. and Mrs. VanScyoc owned and operated the \"Beaver Valley Vacation Farm.\" He was a member of Center Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville, where he served as a board member, trustee, groundskeeper, and sang in the choir. He had a great love for traveling, farming, listening to polka music, and square dancing, but his greatest achievement and love was spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Kathleen E. Sarkady.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Erma Ann Sarkady VanScyoc; two sons, Thomas W. (Debbie) VanScyoc of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Martin L. (Cindy) VanScyoc of Sarahsville; four grandchildren, Amanda VanScyoc of Caldwell, Jared and Andrea VanScyoc of Sarahsville, and Stephen VanScyoc of Camp Pendleton, California; one sister, Lois VanScyoc of Barnesville; one brother-in-law, Sigmund S. Sarkady of Melbourne Beach, Florida; and several cousins and close friends.
Friends may call Wednesday, May 18, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Thursday, May 19th at 11AM with Pastors Jimmy Rogers and Nate Gibbons officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Hendrysburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Rd. Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio, 43212.
