Obituary for Harold L. "Slug" Eichhorn
Harold L. “Slug” Eichhorn, age 70, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Saturday, October 10, 2015, at his home. He was born April 10, 1945, in Caldwell, son of the late Charles L. “Pete” and S. Grace Spence Eichhorn. He was a 1964 graduate of Warren High School, and he was a United States Army veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1965-1967. He retired as a crane operator for the Dana Corporation in 2008. In 2013, Mr. Eichhorn was inducted into the Warren Local High School Football Hall of Fame. He was Methodist by faith, and he was a member of the Caldwell VFW Post #4721, the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, and the Summerfield Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed NASCAR, and he was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., he enjoyed bowling, and he was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He especially loved his children and grandchildren, and attending their sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Chandler and Bertha Ann “Turk” Eichhorn; and three brothers, Donald, Freddie, and Dick Eichhorn.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn M. Bretz Eichhorn, whom he married July 5, 1969; his children, Pamela M. Burch of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Jennifer F. (Robert) Anderson of Coolville, Tonjia S. “Mert” (Mike) Clark of Cambridge, and Anna M. (Jamie) Whetzel of Caldwell; his siblings, Jean Archer of Caldwell, Thelma Grace “Ernie” Brownlee of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Martha Mae “Ginsey” Myers of Akron, Edward “Doc” Eichhorn of Reno, and David D. Eichhorn of Fleming; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 1PM with Pastor Helen Lewis officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to Caldwell High School Girls Athletics.
