Obituary for Gregory G. "Greg" Bates
Gregory G. “Greg” Bates, age 63, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Thursday, October 26, 2017, in Freeport, Bahamas. He was born July 6, 1954, in Cambridge, son of Wilma M. Mendenhall Bates of Sarahsville and the late Glen Bates, who died in 2008. He was a 1972 graduate of Shenandoah High School, and he attended Ohio University, at both Zanesville and Athens campuses. Greg retired as a youth specialist for Guernsey County Job and Family Services in Cambridge, and he had also been employed by Noble County Litter Control. He attended the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church and he was a member of the Shenandoah High School Band Parents. He enjoyed taking vacations and travelling, especially to national parks, and he also enjoyed boating and camping. He was an avid Ohio State University football fan. Greg loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Christine Mary Craig Bates, whom he married February 8, 1986; his children, Corey G. (Anna) Bates of Cambridge, Kristen L. Bates (Doug Cobb) of Sarahsville, Jordan M. Bates, of Sarahsville, Craig A. Noll of Summerfield, Joe P. Noll of Caldwell, and Nick N. (Brittany) Noll of Summerfield; his siblings, Kevin W. (Pam) Bates of Duncan Falls and Brent A. (Wanda) Bates and Deanna L. (Ronald) Ramage, all of Sarahsville; four grandchildren, Natilee, Kadence, Nash, and Jace Noll; his best friend, Craig Rich of Cambridge; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved Yorkie, Snickers.
Friends may call Sunday, November 5, 2017, from 2-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Monday, November 6th at 1PM with Rev. Everett Stoddard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org, or to 5455 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214, or to a charity of one’s choice.
