Obituary for Glen Bates
Glen Bates, age 81, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at OSU Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. He was born September 16, 1926, in Sarahsville, son of the late Harry and Lura M. Hannum Bates. He was a 1945 graduate of Sarahsville High School, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II aboard the USS Liberty in the Pacific Theater. He was employed as an electrical groundsman through IBEW #972, Columbus, and he was a member of the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church. He enjoyed collecting pen knives, gardening, and he loved green spearmints. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn McVicker; and one brother, Donald Bates. Surviving are his wife, Wilma Marie Mendenhall Bates, whom he married November 27, 1952; one daughter, Deanna (Ronald) Ramage of Sarahsville; three sons, Greg (Chris) Bates and Brent (Wanda) Bates, both of Sarahsville and Kevin (Pam) Bates of Duncan Falls; one brother, Martin 'Tyke' Bates of Zanesville; 18 grandchildren, Craig (Jessica), Josh, Joe, Steven (Erika), Nick (Brittany), Megan (JR), Morgan (Devon), Michael, Corey, Kristen, Jordan, Erika, Kaileigh, Leresia, Joey (Cindy), Adam (Brittany), Justin (Cheryl), and Zeb; and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends may call Wednesday, July 2, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be held Thursday, July 3rd at 11AM with Pastor Tom Gruver officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Mt. Ephraim Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organization. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt.
