Obituary for Gladys Arlene Windland
Gladys Arlene Windland, age 79, of Little Hocking, Ohio, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Marietta Care and Rehab Center in Marietta. She was born May 12, 1933, in Caldwell, Ohio, daughter of the late Irvil and Edna Woodford Garvin. She was a graduate of Caldwell High School, and she was a homemaker. She was formerly employed by Carl’s Shoe Store, the former Ron’s Restaurant and The Homestead Restaurant in Caldwell. Mrs. Windland was a member of the Little Hocking United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, where she loved coon and bear hunting with her father and brothers. She also enjoyed traveling, having attended the Olympics in Atlanta. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing, and motorcycle and stock car racing. She loved hummingbirds. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Paul Windland, who died in 1990; and two brothers, George and Dale Garvin. Surviving are her children, Larry Dean (Linda) Windland of Lake Placid, Florida, N. Brent (Kimberly) Windland of Little Hocking, Christina Rae (Mike) Jerome of Stuart, Florida, and Dr. Susan Arlene Windland of Hobe Sound, Florida; her siblings, Darwin (Georgie) Garvin, Marion (Deanna) Garvin, Ruth E. Hendershot, and Ronnie (Kay) Garvin, all of Caldwell, and Doris (Roger) Wagner of Coal Run; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Wednesday, December 19, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Thursday, December 20th at 1PM with Pastor Bill Pickenpaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
