Obituary for Gerald W. "Jerry" Mosser, Sr.

Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Mosser, Sr., age 78, of Caldwell, Ohio, passed away April 3, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Gordo, Alabama. Jerry was born August 23, 1945, in Ohio, son of the late Albert and Diena Tice Mosser. He was United States Navy veteran with 23 years of service. He started his Navy career with three tours in Vietnam, then returned to service in 1976. During his years of service, he toured almost every non-Communist country and retired from the United States Navy in 1991 following a tour in Desert Storm. After retiring from his military career, he went to work for Mahle Steele Plant in Caldwell, where he worked for 16 years before his retirement. Jerry was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda and was a member of the Noble County Cruzers. He enjoyed golfing and camping, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerri never met a stranger.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Mosser and Frank Mosser; and one sister, Sandra (Ron) Heller; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Cora Lou Gerst; two sisters-in-law, Phoebe and Tammy Gerst; and one brother-in-law, Jeff Gerst.


Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Joyce Ann Gerst Mosser; four daughters, Debbie (Marty) Goodman, Kim (James) Plowman, Melissa Hanson, and Korri (Thor) Glidden; two sons, Gerald (Vicki) Mosser, Jr., and Trenton (Alisha) Hanson; one brother, Robert (Venetta) Mosser; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Paul (Debbie) Gerst, Gerald (Christine) Gerst, and Ed Gerst; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Friends may call Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 4-8PM and Wednesday, April 10th from 8AM-10AM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation Wednesday at 10AM with Rev. Fr. Thomas Nelson officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
