Gerald A. Willey, age 87, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Caldwell, died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Marietta Care and Rehab Center. He was born March 2, 1929, in Reinersville, son of the late Clarence B. and Concella Blanche Smith Willey. He was a 1947 graduate of Manchester High School in Reinersville, and he was a 1954 graduate of Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and he served as an Army correspondent for the Stars and Stripes magazine. Mr. Willey was the assistant editor for science for the O.S.U. Research Foundation Science Magazine. He attended First Baptist Church in Caldwell, and he enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, and he enjoyed reading.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Glenna A. Willey and Bernice Louine W. Hutchins; and an infant brother, Glendon A. Willey.
Surviving are one son, Stephen L. Willey of Columbus; one brother, Verle E. Willey of Orange Park, Florida; one nephew, Lloyd Hutchins of Groton, Connecticut; one niece, Suzanne Willey Singleton of Orange Park, Florida; and three great-nephews.
A graveside service will be observed Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 1PM at Dudley Cemetery in Caldwell.
