Obituary for George Tomcho
George Tomcho, age 85, of John Tomcho Road, Cumberland, Ohio died Friday evening (10/7/2005) at his residence. He was born February 14 1920 on the Tomcho Family Farm, near Ava, Ohio, a son of the late John and Mary Voytko Tomcho. George was a US Army Veteran of WWII having served in Europe and North Africa. He had operated the family farm most of his life, and had operated the road maintainer for Noble Township for nearly 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pleasant City, Ohio where he was a former member and president of the church council. Mt. Tomcho was a 27 year member of the Noble County Fairboard and a former member of the National Farmers Organization. He was a member of Belle Valley American Legion Post #641 and the Shenandoah FFA Alumni Association. In 1990 the Noble County Chamber of Commerce honored Mr Tomcho with its 'Farmer of the Year' award. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 3 brothers, John, Joe and Emil Tomcho and 1 sister, Mary Leicher. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Violet Sanderson Tomcho, whom he married 10/21/1949; 3 daughters, Delores J. (Dave Garan) Williams of Byesville, Ohio, Pamela S. (Gary) Oliver of Caldwell, Ohio and Linda M. (Jeff) Osentoski of New Philadelphia, Ohio; 1 son, Larry G. (Connie Nicholson) Tomcho of Cumberland, Ohio; a twin brother, Andy Tomcho of Cleveland, Ohio; 5 sisters, Sue Meister of Cleveland, Ohio, Ann Durica of Cleveland, Ohio, Julia Wilson of North Olmsted, Ohio, Martha Tannen of Columbus, Ohio and Evelyn (Dan) Jurkovich of Westlake, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Dorothy McCune of Cambridge, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Angie Tomcho of Strongsville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Mertes, Loralee Williams, Amber, Landon & Miley Tomcho, Chris Oliver, Laura (Dave) Nolan, Thomas Oliver, Courtney, Danielle & Lindsay Osentoski; 5 great grandchildren, Ryan & Sara Mertes, Britanni & Cody Oliver and Trey Nolan; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday (10/10/2005) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Tuesday (10/11/2005) at 10 AM with Pastor Katie Kerrigan officiating. Burial will follow at Hiramsburg Cemetery. Caldwell Post #4721 VFW and Belle Valley Post #641 American Legion will conduct military graveside services. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Guernsey or to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
