Obituary for George P. Mizik
George P. Mizik, age 84, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Friday, September 9, 2005, at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Ohio. He was born May 5, 1921, in Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Michael and Ella Fetkovich Mizik. He was a 1938 graduate of Belle Valley High School and was a WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in Iwo Jima, and he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a former employee of Continental Can Company of Newark, and retired from the Dana Corporation in Caldwell. Mr. Mizik was a member of the Marine Corps League in Zanesville; the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Cambridge, the Dexter City American Legion Post #418; and the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen V. Kracinovsky Mizik, who died December 30, 1990; one son, William G. Mizik, who died in 1975; one brother, John Mizik; and two sisters, Josephine Hrinko and Eileen Serdy. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Wickham Mizik of Cumberland; four sons, Robert E. (Marilyn) Mizik of Toledo, Thomas (Tammy) Mizik of Colorado Springs, Colorado, James P. (Georgene) Mizik of Caldwell, and Patrick M. (Barbara) Mizik of Kansas City, Kansas; three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Janet) Skaggs of Grove City, Mrs. Floyd (Audrey) Steed of Belle Valley, and Connie M. Abraham of Caldwell; one step-daughter, Mrs. Lynn (Alice Jean) Hall of Cumberland; three step-sopns, Fred (Karen) Wickham and Carl (Sandy) Wickham, all of Cumberland; and Stanley (Becky) Wickham of Lancaster; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Friends may call Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, from 5-8PM and Monday, Sept. 12 from 3-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the Military Order of the Purple Heart will conduct services Monday at 5PM, and Christian Scripture Services will be held Monday at 8:30PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 13 at 10AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley with Father Dale Tornes as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Belle Valley. Noble County Veterans Service Organization will present military honors. The family requests memorials be made to the Dexter City American Legion Post #418, the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Cambridge, or the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
