Obituary for George H. Womack
George H. Womack, age 89, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at his home. He was born February 10, 1920, in Columbus, son of the late Samuel and Kathryn Lorey Womack. He attended Dexter City High School, and he was a U.S. Army veteran, having attained the rank of sergeant, and serving in the European theatre of operations and at the Battle of the Bulge. He also received a Purple Heart. He retired as a crane operator in 1979 from Foote Mineral Company in Cambridge following 26 years of service. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Belle Valley, and he was a life member of the Caldwell DAV and the Cambridge VFW. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Samuel Womack; one grandson, Samuel Womack, Jr.; and four sisters, Pearl, Kathryn, Mary, and Eva. Surviving are his wife, Evonna Stone Womack, whom he married April 15, 1972; four daughters, Sallie Duniver of Sarahsville, Sussie (Frank) Dickie of Salesville, Pam Adkins of Virginia, and Doe (Bruce) Cubbison of Cumberland; one son, Darryn (Trina) Smith of Houston, Texas; one sister, Gloria (Lee) Hatfield of Newark; one brother, Major James (Eileen) Womack of Jefferson, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Friends may call Friday, October 30, 2009, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Saturday, October 31st at 11AM with Pastors Jay Loucks and Darrell Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with veterans graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
