Obituary for Gary L. "Speedy" Reed
Gary L. "Speedy" Reed, age 67, of Caldwell, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 9, 2016, surrounded by his family at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born May 12, 1948, in Zanesville, son of the late Edsel O. and Evelyn Nadine Wickham Reed. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School, and in his early years, he built silos and worked in oil fields. He retired from Island Aseptics in Byesville following 23 years of service. Gary attended the Caldwell Church of the Nazarene, and he was a diehard fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved hanging out with his coffee buddies at Arbys.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Adam Lee Reed on October 29, 2012; and his father and mother-in-law, Rex and Shirley Leach.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Penny Leach Reed; one daughter, Missy (Richard) Slater of Caldwell; one brother, Michael O. (Joy) Reed of Caldwell; three sisters, Brenda O. (Bob) Miller, Janet L. (Jerry) Martin, and Penny D. (Perry) Brown, all of Caldwell; one grandson, Collin Banks of Caldwell; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday, January 11, 2016, from 4PM-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, January 12th at 11AM with Pastor John Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PAWS, Inc., P.O. Box 4, Caldwell, Ohio, 43724, to honor Gary’s love of animals.
