Obituary for G. Maxine Laughlin
G. Maxine Laughlin, age 86, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, August 15, 2014, at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville. She was born July 12, 1928, in Sarahsville, daughter of the late Charles H. and Goldie Van Dyne Laughlin. She was a 1946 graduate of Sarahsville High School, and she attended business college in Zanesville. Maxine taught school in Corning, Ohio, for a short time, and she was formerly a court reporter for the Noble County Common Pleas Court. She retired after serving as a paralegal at Young Law Office in Caldwell for over 50 years. She was a member of the Jenny James Missionary Society, and she was well known locally for her Hildy Huddle monologue. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Community Church, where she played the piano for many years, and where she started the New Life Singers in the 1970s. She also attended the Caldwell Free Methodist Church. Maxine generously supported many church and missionary organizations over the years. She taught Sunday School for many years, and hosted a Summer Kids Bible Club in her back yard for the children in her neighborhood. She loved children, and she assisted her mother Goldie in foster parenting her sister and brothers, and continued her care for them after her mother died.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Frank E. Griffin.
Surviving are one sister, Barbara L. Casto of Caldwell; three brothers, David H. (Martha) Griffin of Caldwell, Glenn L. (Joyce) Griffin of Urbana, and Joseph W. (Carolyn) Griffin of Hiramsburg; 3 nieces; 2 nephews; 9 grand-nieces and nephews; and family friend, Earl Gill of Caldwell.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 19, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Wednesday, August 20th at 1PM with Pastor Dave Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
