Obituary for Fred L. Tilton
Fred L. Tilton, age 87, of Dudley, Ohio, died Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Harmar Place in Marietta, Ohio. He was born January 4, 1919, near Three Forks, Ohio, son of the late Alfred and Fey Shuman Tilton. He was a 1936 graduate of Dexter City High School, and he served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. Except for time served in the military, he lived his entire life in Noble County, Ohio. He retired from truck driving in 1981. Mr. Tilton enjoyed attending auctions, repairing and refinishing antique furniture, and spending time with his family and friends, including the Hunka Dora 'council' group. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cantley Tilton, whom he married January 25, 1947, and who died April 3, 1997; one brother, Forrest Tilton; and one sister, Florence F. Tilton Carter. Surviving are a son, Tim (Brenda) Tilton of Marietta; two daughters, Cindy Tilton Pennybacker of Troy and Lois Tilton of Columbus; five grandsons, Nicholas and Seth Tilton and Matthew, Douglas, and Samuel Pennybacker; one sister, Freda Tilton Miller of Dexter City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 4-8PM and Wednesday, October 25 from 12-2PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be held Wednesday at 2PM with Pastor Martin Radcliff officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veterans Services Organization. Memorials may be made to the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department - P. O. Box 24 - Caldwell, Ohio - 43724, or a charity of the donor's choice.
