Eugene W. Bergman, age 83, of Cambridge, Ohio, died Sunday,May 9, at SE Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born April 22, 1921, in Ridgley, West VA, son of the late William and Virginia Long Bergman. He was a retired electrician with the Marlite Division of the Masonite Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and during WWII was a staff sergeant in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Cumberland, Maryland, and a member of the Joseph H. Murray Post #18 in Nampa, Idaho, where he served two terms as commander. Mr. Bergman was past Chaplain 3rd District, Dept. of Idaho, was past post commander at Post #1445, New Philadelphia, Ohio, and past council commander and past district commander at Three River Council in Ohio. He was currently serving as treasurer for the American Legion's National Historians Group (NADHAL). He was a member of the Kennonsburg United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Herman Bergman, and one sister, Mary Rieber. He is survived by four sons, Greg (Joan) Bergman of Quaker City, OH: John (Christin) Bergman of Alabama; Ed (La-Nita) Bergman of Tennessee; and Dave (Linda) Bergman of Quaker City, OH; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and five nephews and one niece. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 16, at the Kennonsburg United Methodist Church at 3PM with Rev. Mark Slay officiating. Burial will be at the Rocky Gap Military Cemetery at Cumberland, Maryland. Arrangements are in the care of McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell.
