Etta Irene Uhl, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. She was born November 5, 1913, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret Carnes. She had worked from her home in Belle Valley, Ohio, as a telephone operator for General Telephone, and she was also a clerk for the former G.C. Murphy Company in Columbus. She attended the Belle Valley United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed sports, especially bowling. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Virgel Uhl, who died in 1955; one son, Don Uhl, who died in February, 2008; one sister, Lola McBride; and one brother, Lester Carnes. Surviving are three daughters, Joan (Tal) Taylor of Seattle, Washington; Carol (Edgel) Ogle of Belle Valley, and Patty (Dave) Montenaro of Vero Beach, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Uhl of Lansing, Michigan; two sisters, Madalen Paul of Brighton, Michigan, and Margie Orrin of Farmington, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her friends at Willow Arms. Friends may call Friday, September 5, 2008, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be held Saturday, September 6th at 11AM with Pastor Sandra Payette officiating. Burial will follow at Hoskinsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belle Valley United Methodist Church, c/o 15777 Wolf Run Road, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717.
