Elvin A. “Scoop” Wheeler, age 81, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at his home. He was born May 5, 1938, in Clarion, Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Alden George and Mable Shifflet Wheeler. He attended Forest Grove High School. Scoop retired as a machine operator for the Dana Corporation plant in Caldwell following 45 years of service. He was a member of the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, and he served on the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and camping. He also enjoyed flower gardening and working jigsaw puzzles.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Elvin A. “Butch” Wheeler and Jeffrey Wheeler; and one brother, Daryl Wheeler.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn J. McElfresh Wheeler, whom he married May 21, 1977; three step-children, Kevin (Linda) Schott of Sharon, Jack (Olivia) Schott of Caldwell, and Jill (John) Kelley of Zanesville; one sister, Marcella (Earl) Bond of Belle Valley; several grandchildren, including Brett Wheeler, Ellen Gies, Cody Kelley, Cole Kelley, Cora Schott, and Logan Schott; several great-grandchildren, including Abigail Kelley; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 2-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Friday, June 14th at 11AM with Pastor Randy Savage officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
