Obituary for Edward W. Mazgay
Edward W. Mazgay, age 88, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born April 14, 1924, in Florence, Ohio, son of the late Stanley J. and Sophia Bonk Mazgay, Sr. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School, and he was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Mazgay retired from Central Ohio Coal Company, where he was employed as a maintenance worker, and he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, and a member of the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball with his brothers in the church league in Belle Valley, and he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marie L. Malenda Mazgay, whom he married in 1945, and who died March 24, 1998; one daughter, Shirley Mazgay Pridmore; one sister, Valera Bober; two brothers, Leo J. “Lobby” Mazgay and Stanley J. “P.J.” Mazgay, Jr.; and one daughter-in-law, Linda Mazgay. Surviving are his children, Charlotte (Jerry) Dillon of Naples, Florida, Phillis (Ron) Forsyth of Columbus, Ted Mazgay of Caldwell, Phillip (Mealonie) Mazgay of Caldwell, and Edward L. Mazgay of Columbus; one sister, Wanda Keeton of Columbus; many grandchildren, including Stacy Saling, who lived with him while in high school; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, February 18, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, with a Christian vigil service to be observed at 4PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Tuesday, February 19th at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt.
