Obituary for Edward E. Bailey
Edward E. Bailey, age 84, of Belle Valley, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born December 18, 1926, in Belle Valley, son of the late Leo and Mary Macenko Bailey. He was a 1944 graduate of Belle Valley High School, and attended Ohio University in Athens from which he also obtained his training as a private pilot. He graduated from Southern Methodist University\'s Photography School in Dallas and he was a United States Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific. He retired as a drag line operator for Central Ohio Coal Company following 42 1/2 years, and where he also operated the Big Muskie. He was a licensed and degreed strip mine foreman. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley. Mr. Bailey was active in his community, having served as president of the Belle Valley Village Council, as mayor of Belle Valley, and president of the Community Improvement Corporation. He also served as the chief of the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and he was responsible for the construction of the Belle Valley Municipal Building and fire station. He was active in supporting the development of Wolf Run Lake State Park. He was past commander of the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641. He was a Southeastern Ohio high school basketball official, and he was certified in CPR, with which he once saved a man\'s life. Mr. Bailey enjoyed photography and hunting, and he was an avid reader. He loved his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Yunick and Mary Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. McCauley Bailey, whom he married June 30, 1951; one daughter, Cheryl A. (Gary) Coyle of Caldwell; one son, Edward E. Bailey, Jr., of The Woodlands, Texas; six grandchildren, Julie Coyle and Gary Coyle, and Brett, Matthew, Nicholas, and Olivia Bailey; one great-grandson, Aiden Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 2-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a vigil service will be observed at 6PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Saturday at 10AM at Corpus Christie Catholic Church in Belle Valley Valley with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. A veteran\'s graveside service will follow at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Dept., c/o 100 Main Street, Belle Valley, 43717.
