Obituary for Earl James Barton
Earl James Barton, age 85, of Caldwell, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. He was born July 8, 1919, in Noble County, son of the late Elmer and Claudice Gill Barton. He was a US Army veteran, having served at Guadalcanal and the Figi Islands. He retired from the former Gladicer Vandervell plant at Caldwell after 25 years of service, and was a member of the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Fulda. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Edna M. Pitts Barton in 1973; a son, Robert Earl Barton in 1957 and a grandson, Robert Earl Barton, II. Surviving are his wife, Leona 'Skip' Saling Barton, to whom he was married for 30 years; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Linda L.) Corp of Whipple; three grandchildren, Jason Corp of Newport, Ohio, Adam Barton of Lewisville, Ohio, and Mrs. Brent (Angel Dawn) Johnson of Lewisville, Ohio; a great-grandson, Kyle Johnson; four sisters-in-law, Helen Pitts of Canton, Ruth Pitts and Marge Pitts of Columbus, and Vicki Pitts of Caldwell; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 10AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Fulda with Fr. Samuel Saprano as celebrant. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery. Christian Scripture service will be Sunday evening at 7:30PM. Veterans graveside service will be conducted by the Caldwell VFW Post #4721.
