Dwight C. “Butch” Smith, age 63, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Thursday, July 11, 2024, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He was born July 7, 1961, in Cambridge, son of the late Dwight C. Kiggans and the late Mary Ellen Smith Kiggans. Butch was a 1979 graduate of Shenandoah High School and was a United States Navy veteran, having served four years aboard the USS Enterprise. He was employed for several years at S.C. Manufacturing in Akron. Butch was an avid fan of Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns football and he enjoyed listening to country-western music and old school rock-n-roll. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna D. Leasure Smith.
Surviving are his children, Andrew M. (Laurie) Smith of Rittman, Jack A. Smith of Caldwell, and Zachary J. Swartz-Smith of Caldwell; two grandchildren, Aurora Smith and James Smith; his siblings, Deborah L. Watson of Sarahsville and Lisa R. (Danny) Anderson of Mt. Perry; two nephews, Jordy (Sadie) Anderson and Tyler (Meagan) Anderson; great-nieces and nephews, Asher, Anna, Lilly, and Lucas Anderson; several cousins; and his good friend, Chase Swartz of Caldwell.
Friends may call Monday, July 15, 2024, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, July 16th at 11AM with Ken Perkins officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Village View Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
