Obituary for Dorothy V. Bates
Dorothy V. Bates, age 93, of Ava, Ohio, died Thursday morning, May 17, 2012, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge. She was born September 16, 1918, in Ava, daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Allbritain Davis. She was a 1936 graduate of Belle Valley High School and she was a homemaker for most of her life. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Harvey A. Bates, whom she married in 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky. He died in 2003. She is also preceded in death by one son John Maurice Davis, who died in 1965; one brother, William Obert Davis, who died in 1985; one sister, Nellie B. Danford, who died in 1945; and one nephew, Neil Danford, who died in 2005. Surviving are one sister-in-law, Lela Mae Davis of Caldwell; one niece, Connie (Bob) Bond of Caldwell; one nephew, Mark (Carla) Davis of Caldwell; several great-nieces great-nephews; and several great-great nieces and great-great nephews. No visitation will be observed. Private services will be observed at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell. Burial will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belle Valley or Caldwell Volunteer Fire Departments.
