Obituary for Donald J. "Joe" Lori

Donald J. “Joe” Lori, age 85, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home. He was born November 22, 1937, in Pleasant City, son of the late Andrew H. and Mary R. Lorey Lori. Joe was a 1956 graduate of Caldwell High School and was a retired United States Air Force veteran, having served from 1956-1977. He was employed locally at Summit Acres Nursing Home, where he was head of maintenance, Food Center, and several other places. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Bible study leader. Joe enjoyed woodworking, gardening and keeping his yard looking nice, and he was a handyman who could fix anything. He also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles. In his early years, he traveled many places and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was very devoted to his family.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Cubbison; and two brothers, Herman and David Lori.


Surviving are his wife, Janet Marlene Murray Lori, whom he married July 2, 1957;  his children, Daniel J. (Susan) Lori of Akron and Jody M. (Scott) Schell of Reynoldsburg; five grandchildren, Emily Schell, Molly Schell, Amanda Lori, Michelle Lori, and Nathan Applebee; one sister, Shirley Wharff of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Friends may call Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Christian Scripture Service will be observed at 8PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Saturday, September 9th at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Fr. Dale Tornes as celebrant. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
