Obituary for Donald E. Powell
Donald E. Powell, age 81, of Senecaville, Ohio, formerly of Mt. Ephraim, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at his home. He was born February 6, 1932, near Quaker City, son of the late Francis and Hazel Eschbaugh Powell. He was a 1949 graduate of Sarahsville High School, and he was a United States Air Force veteran, having served as a personnel specialist during the Korean War from November, 1951, to November, 1955. He retired from the Dana Corporation in February, 1994. Mr. Powell attended the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports, playing corn hole and horseshoes, and attending tractor pulls and races. He also loved hunting and fishing, and spending time in the woods. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Betty McVicker, Dorothy Warner, and Edna Anderson; and one brother, Walter Powell. Surviving are his wife, Leona Mae Leonhardt Powell, whom he married March 2, 1958; his children, Terry C. (Rita) Powell of Gahanna, Arlene S. (Joe) Spears of Wadestown, West Virginia, Bryan L. (Becky) Powell of Cambridge, and Carol L. Powell (Terry Gartrell) of New Concord; his siblings, Josie Williams of Quaker City, Fred (Joann) Powell of Caldwell, and Sylvia Mendenhall of Canton; one brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” (Judy) Leonhardt of Caldwell; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call Monday, October 28, 2013, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, October 29th at 11AM with Pastor John Powell officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Friends Cemetery in Quaker City. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
