Obituary for Don A. Niswonger
Don A. Niswonger, age 83, of Caldwell, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital, Zanesville, following an extended illness. He was born April 7, 1921, in Buffalo, Ohio, son of the late Thorton and Chloe Robinson Niswonger. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired in 1991 from RC Moore Lumber, Caldwell, after 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie Jo, and infant daughter Patricia; one granddaughter, Marla Mazgay; two brothers, Oscar and Bill Niswonger; and three sisters, Bessie Grimes, Gail Bates, and Virgil Jones. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Sharkus Niswonger, whom he married August 19, 1947; eight children, Vicki (Jim) Dovenbarger, Connie (Brian) Curtis, Becky (Walt) Fry, Steve (Diana) Niswonger, Tim (Jane) Niswonger, Cindy (Rex) Green, Doug (Carolin) Niswonger, and Jennifer (Jeff) Croucher, all of Caldwell; 23 grandchildren, Trinda Cobb, Gina Hesson, Angela Schafer, Amy Hutcheson, Elizabeth Curtis, Matthew and Luke Fry, Stephanie, Mackenzie, and Cassidy Niswonger, Danielle Plechaty, Kaeli, Kara, and Karli Niswonger, Lindsay and Liza Green, Jessica, Emma, and Bradley Niswonger, and Jordan, Jensen, Jade, and Jonah Croucher; 9 great-grandchildren, Derick, Marli, Stephen, Abby, Christopher, Kam, Maggie, Calli, and Elle; three sisters, Ruth Kirkbride, Naomi Blackford, and Winifred Hill, all of Massillon; one sister-in-law, Frances Niswonger; and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, and great-grandfather. His family was the light of his life. Friends may call Monday, March 21, 2005, from 2-5 and 7-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where scripture service will be observed at 8:30PM. Funeral Mass with Liturgy will be Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caldwell, with Fr. Dale Tornes as celebrant. Military graveside services will be conducted at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Caldwell, by Caldwell VFW Post #4721.
