Obituary for Deltin W. "Del" Hogue
Deltin W. “Del” Hogue, age 63, of Strasburg, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at his home following a long, courageous battle with cancer that lasted over six years. He was born August 20, 1954, in Alliance, son of Faye Jeannette Boyd Hogue of Strasburg and the late Ray Junior Hogue, who died October 8, 2014. He was a 1972 graduate of Marlington High School in Alliance, and he was a United States Coast Guard veteran. Del was self-employed as a construction worker for many years. He was a true outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, hunting and many outdoor sports. He was an avid reader and one of the most knowledgeable people about history, guns, nature, and many other subjects. He loved the old west and the cowboy way of life. He will be remembered and missed for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Del survived many medical procedures with grace and dignity, and he relied on his sense of humor to get his family and himself through many crises.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Darla R. (David) Galbreath of New Concord; one nephew, Adam W. Galbreath of New Concord; an aunt, Kaye (David) Hill of Byesville; an uncle, Victor (Irene) Boyd of Zanesville; many cousins, including a special cousin, Dueb (Lynn) Archer of Caldwell; many close and loyal friends; and his best fur buddy, his shih-tzu, Toby.
A graveside service will be observed Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 2PM at Sharon Cemetery near Caldwell with Ken Perkins officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, Ohio, 44685, or the humane society of one's choice.
