Obituary for David L. Jackson
David L. Jackson, age 67, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Thursday, October 27, 2016, at his home. He was born February 6, 1949, in Cambridge, son of the late John A. and Mary M. Cross Jackson. He was a 1968 graduate of Cambridge High School, and he was a United States Navy veteran, having served 9 years during the Vietnam War era. He was employed by Monroe Equipment in Cumberland, and he retired as a field service diesel technician following 30 years of service for Baker and Sons Equipment. Dave was a 34 year member and past commander for the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, past commander for American Legion District #11, and he was currently serving as 1st vice commander for the American Legion Department of Ohio. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 641 in Belle Valley and the Belle Valley American Legion Riders. In 2014, Dave was inducted into the Noble County Veterans Hall of Fame, and he was the 2006 recipient of the Robert T. Secrest Legionnaire of the Year Award. He was an active member with the Noble County Color Guard, and a 27 year member of the Voiture Local #1523. He was currently serving on the National Veterans Employment and Education Council. He was also a member of the Caldwell Post #4721 VFW Auxilliary, and a member of the National Sergeant at Arms Club. Dave was a member of the Sharon Lodge #136, F&AM and the Valley of Cambridge, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He was also a 37 year member of the Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter and first responder.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Mead Jackson, whom he married January 20, 1968; his children, Wendy J. (Allen) Spiker of Caldwell and John D. Jackson of the home; one sister, Cynthia K. Jackson of Cambridge; and two grandchildren, Clara N. Roberts and Heather D. Roberts.
Friends may call Monday, October 31, 2016, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Masonic service will be observed at 7:30PM. The funeral service will be observed Tuesday, November 1st at 11AM with Pastor Larry Copley officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery.
