Obituary for Darrel M. Gant
Darrel M. Gant, age 79, of Cumberland, Ohio, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Baltic from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born June 16, 1942, in Fredericksdale, son of the late Marcus F. and Joan Dettra Gant. Darrel was a 1960 graduate of Summerfield High School and a graduate of the Railroad Communications School in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired as an agent operator from Norfolk and Western Railroad, and he also retired from Mid-East Career Center in Zanesville where he was employed as a custodian. He attended the East Union and Cumberland United Methodist Churches, and he was a member of the Lodi Railroad Museum. Darrel loved classic cars. He was a member the Chevy Impala Association and owned a 1964 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible. He loved to read and enjoyed watching western movies and television shows.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Gant; his father and mother-in-law, William and Mildred Murrey Rossiter; sister-in-law, Betty Davis; and brother-in-law, James Rossiter.
Surviving are his wife and high school sweetheart, Judy Belle Rossiter Gant, whom he married August 20, 1961; two daughters, Debra S. (Randall) Johnson of Cambridge and Dianna L. (Tim) Cox of Cumberland; one brother, Steve (Mary) Gant of Caldwell; four grandchildren, James M. (Lindsay) Perkins of Strasburg, Brandi J. (Tyler) Robinson of Caldwell, Maala M. Cox (John Goss) of Zanesville and Kaala L. Cox of Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Barbara Bates of Virginia; former son-in-law, Jim (Lora) Perkins of Caldwell; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved Yorkie, Libby.
A graveside service will be observed Friday, November 12, 2021, at 1PM at East Union Cemetery with Keith Taylor officiating.
