Obituary for Clara Mae Brown
Clara Mae Brown, age 77, of Dexter City, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Beckett House at New Concord. She was born June 2, 1935 in Chandlersville, a daughter of the late Foster and Rosie Swingle Pyle. She was employed from 1966 to 1968 by N.C.R in Cambridge and from 1968 to 1995 by the United States Postal Service. She retired after serving from 1981 to 1995 as Post Master of Dexter City. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Mary Reed Memorial United Methodist Church in Crooked Tree; was a Past Worthy Matron of Aurelius Chapter #60 Order of the Eastern Star in Macksburg; the Dexter City American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Noble County Business and Professional Women. She loved quilting, traveling and music, especially playing the hammered dulcimer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil M. Brown, whom she married November 11, 1951, and who died April 19, 2000; one sister, Margaret McDaniel; one brother, Calvin Pyle and two infant great-granddaughters. Surviving is one daughter, Kathy Brown Glidden of Dexter City; three sons, Perry (Penny) Brown of Caldwell, Stephen C. (Marcia) Brown of Dexter City and Scott F. Brown of North Canton; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, in Caldwell where the funeral will be observed on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 1 PM with the Rev. Jeff Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Crooked Tree Cemetery.
