Obituary for Cheryl R. Townsend
Cheryl R. Townsend, age 71, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, March 12, 2021, at Altercare Summit Acres. She was born December 23, 1949, in Reinersville, Ohio, daughter of the late Ray and Mary “Kitty” Armstrong Petry. Cheryl was a graduate of Caldwell High School, and she was a beloved mother and homemaker. She attended the former Center Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville and was a member of the Belle Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post #641. She loved bluegrass music and watching baseball and The Price is Right on TV.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Junior Townsend, whom she married in 1973 and died in 2018.
Surviving are her son, James R. (Peggy Sue) Townsend of Pleasant City; her siblings, Carl “Chico” (Connie) Petry of Macksburg, James (Tracy) Petry of Ava, Jeff (Reba) Petry of Ava, Debbie (Jerry) Hall of Ava, Dave Petry of Caldwell, Christy (Dale) Henry of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Jalisa Hickman, Sam Townsend, and Noah Townsend; two aunts, Ruth Turley of Florida and Opal Petry of Canton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Monday, March 15, 2021, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM with Ken Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, 131 Brown Street, Belle Valley, Ohio, 43717, or to the Absolute Hospice Foundation, 39 Summit Court, Caldwell, Ohio, 43724.
