Obituary for Charles J. Coyle
Charles J. Coyle, Lt. Col, ret., age 96, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Hoskinsville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Heartland Nursing Center in Marietta on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Mr. Coyle was a well-known resident of the Hoskinsville community in Noble County, where he lived most of his life until he retired to Marietta ten years ago. He was a military man, having served in the European Theatre during World War II as a liaison pilot. He was an agricultural agent in Lawrence County, Ohio, until recalled to military service during the Korean Conflict, where he served as an instructor pilot, teaching new pilots to fly helicopters. He returned to civilian life, but was soon called to command the new National Guard unit in Caldwell, Ohio. He taught high school in Belle Valley and Summerfield before joining the staff at Zanesville High School. After 22 years, he retired from teaching, and for many years entertained in nursing homes, schools, and on stage and television in Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, and Kentucky, portraying the life and times of our sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Coyle was a member of the First Church of Christ in Caldwell, where he served as deacon and chairman of the building committee; a member of the American Legion Post #64 and VFW Post #4721; a member of the Sharon Lodge #0136, F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge, Royal Arch Masons, Cambridge Chapter #53, Cambridge Commandery #47 Knights Templar, Aladdin Shriners in Columbus, and member and past patron of the former Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #30.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Martha (Betty) Harmon; one niece, Shelba Jean Harmon; one nephew, Donald Rex Harmon; and two great-nephews, Jerry Harmon and Brian Harmon.

He will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 72 years, Mary E. Willis Coyle; four sons, James (Ruth), David (Patsy), Gary (Sherry), and Lee (Laura), one daughter, Dianne (Charlie) Baker-Jones, 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a special nephew, Thurman E. (Sheila) Harmon; and several loved nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday, April 21, 2015, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Masonic service will be observed at 7:30PM. The funeral service will be observed Wednesday, April 22nd at 2PM at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Pickenpaugh and Pastor Thurman Harmon officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Hoskinsville Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
