Obituary for Carole Yvonne Ray
Carole Yvonne Ray, age 82, of Cumberland, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born September 15, 1935, in Noble County to the late Irvil Danford Rayner and Esther Mae (Fish) Rayner Ginn. Carole was a 1953 graduate of Belle Valley High School. Once graduating high school, she served her country in the United States Army. Upon being discharged from her service, she became an employee at RCA Cambridge and worked there for 10 years until it closed, and the 27 years at NCR Cambridge until it closed and she retired. She met her husband Gene while working at RCA and was able to commute to work with him for most all of that time. She loved her monthly lunches with the retired ladies of NCR. She volunteered at Summit Acres Nursing Home for 22 years and was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church for most of her life. She was an active part of the family farm with her husband and son’s family. She loved reading, including the complete set of Zane Grey novels, which are part of her extensive book collection.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eugene (Gene) Ray, whom she married May 16, 1969, and who passed before her on August 22, 2011; brothers Albert (Bub) Rayner, William (Bill) Rayner, and sister Mary Lou Varhola.
Surviving are her children, Shawn (Kim) Ray of Cumberland, Susan Ray (Sam Pepper) of Lore City, and Ralph (Hallie) Ray of Old Washington. She leaves her grandchildren, Dana Ray, Duell Leonard, Etta (Korey) Moyer, William Ray, and Hannah Ray, who were all the joy of her life. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Levi Ray, Aubrianna Kennedy, and Aaron Jedi Ray, who brought her great joy as well. Carole also leaves her sister, Judy Gibson of Reynoldsburg, and many loved nieces and nephews, as well as a host of very special friends who will all miss her greatly.
Friends may call Sunday, June 3, 2018, from 1-3:30PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed at 5:30PM with Rev. Tom Matus officiating and a veteran’s service conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Inurnment will take place at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery in Ava at a later date.
