Obituary for Boyd G. Reed
Boyd G. Reed, age 92, of Cumberland, Ohio, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born February 4, 1926, in Renrock, Noble County, son of the late Owen Garrett and Susan Graham Reed. He was a 1944 graduate of Reinersville High School, and he was a United States Army veteran who served during World War II in the European Theater. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Boyd was employed as a truck driver and retired from Leaseway Transport. He was a member of Teamsters Local #413 in Columbus, and he was also a member of the American Legion Post #641 in Belle Valley and a life member of the DAV. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and raising goats. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who was devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Alice R. Haines Reed, who died April 25, 1987; his second wife, Wilma Dean Yoho Reed, who died April 3, 2015; one sister, Patty Lou Henderson; and three brothers, Edsel, Emil, and Kermit Reed.
Surviving are his children, Pamela L. Chaffin of Columbus, Karl B. “Brad” Reed of Cumberland, Philip B. Reed of West Jefferson, and Carla S. Allen of Columbus; one sister, Sara Wellar of Zanesville; one brother, Cecil (Ann) Reed of McConnelsville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be observed Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, with Pastor Jim Garrett officiating. It will be followed by a veteran’s service conducted by the Noble County Veteran’s Service Organizations. Inurnment will take place at a later time.
