Obituary for Betty Lou Schenkel
Betty Lou Schenkel, age 87, of Beverly, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Willow Haven Care Center in Zanesville. She was born September 5, 1927, in Noble County, daughter of Carl and Alice Look Gessel. She was a homemaker, and she drove a school bus for Caldwell Schools for 20 years. She attended Dungannon United Methodist Church, where she taught a pre-school class for over 40 years. She was an active member of the Aurelius Chapter #60, Order of the Eastern Star at Macksburg, where she held many offices, including Worthy Matron and secretary. In 1991, she was honored to be selected as Deputy Grand Matron of District 25. She was also an active member of the Laurel Grange #1678, where she served as treasurer and Noble County Grange Deputy. Mrs. Schenkel also served on the election board for over 40 years. She was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Quilting Club, and she attended Ripples in Caldwell, which supports cancer survivors, including breast cancer survivors. She loved being with her family, attending her grandchildren’s school events, quilting, and attending Eastern Star meetings.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Harry Howard Schenkel, whom she married April 4th, 1947, and who died January 31, 1997; and two brothers, Carl Robert Gessel and Kenneth Fred Gessel.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Timothy Howard (Roberta) Schenkel of Zanesville and Thomas L. (Betty) Schenkel of Beverly; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Mike) Kovalchick, Carrie (Stephen) Reasonover, Thomas Schenkel (Ashlynn McQuilkin), and Timothy L. Schenkel; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Gale “Jack” (Phyllis) Gessel; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Gessel and Ruth Biehl; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 2-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where an Eastern Star service will be observed at 6PM. The funeral service will be observed Friday, October 31st at 11AM with Pastor Jim Porter and Pastor Thurman Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Crooked Tree Cemetery.
