Obituary for Bertrum Lloyd Chaffin
Bertrum Lloyd Chaffin, age 77, of Pleasant City, Ohio, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at his home. He was born October 22, 1935, in Fort Gay, West Virginia, son of the late Nathan Lloyd and Jane Chaffin, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, and he retired as head of maintenance for many years from American Crucible and Kenco Pump of Lorain. He owned and operated H&J Auto in Avon, D&B Tack, and Bert’s Bargain Barn at Rink’s Flea Market in Marietta. He enjoyed collecting many different items, and attending flea markets. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Lee Hearn Chaffin, who died April 2, 2008, and to whom he was married for 49 years. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Nathan, William, and Jay Chaffin. Surviving are one daughter, Sandy L. (Bill) Blackburn of Lakewood; one son, David L. Chaffin of Pleasant City; his grandchildren, Heather Marie, Steve, Tara, Jason, Chris, and Jared; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Newman of Lorain; one sister-in-law, Eloise Chaffin of Sheffield Lake; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be observed Sunday, August 18th, 2013, at 3PM at Rinks Flea Market, 404 Fort Harmar Drive in Marietta. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses in care of McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 263, Caldwell, Ohio, 43724.
