Obituary for Bertha N. Clark
Bertha N. Clark, age 98, of Summerfield, Ohio, died Friday, August 31, 2018, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. She was born February 22, 1920, in Dexter City, daughter of the late Ernest and May Swain Ball. She was a 1939 graduate of Dexter City High School, and she was a homemaker. Bertha was a member of the Dexter City American Legion Auxiliary, #418 and the East Union Homemakers Club, and she also volunteered for many years at The Samaritan House in Caldwell. She was an excellent baker who was known for her raisin filled cookies and apple pies. She enjoyed word search and crossword puzzles, and she loved playing checkers with her grandchildren. Bertha was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother who was devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Clark, whom she married June 10, 1939, and who died August 16, 1998; two sisters, Nora Williams and Betty Huberty; four brothers, Floyd, Willard, Roy, and Robert Ball; a great-grandson, Seth Heine; and a son-in-law, Joe Sumner.
Surviving are her children, Wayne E. (Sharon) Clark of Caldwell, Linda K. (Oneal) Lochridge of Hamilton, Mississippi, Russell A. (Shelia) Clark of Sarahsville, Susan J. Sumner of Zanesville, Barbara J. (Steve) Grywalski of Sarahsville, and James L. (Lisa) Clark of Cumberland; her siblings, Billy Ball of Caldwell, Junior (Marilyn) Ball of Canton, Charles Ball of Sarahsville, and Charlene Archibald of Caldwell; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Monday, September 3, 2018, from 3-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, September 4th at 11AM with Pastor George Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Ogle’s Ridge Cemetery.
