Obituary for Alfred E. "Butch" Swain
Alfred E. “Butch” Swain, age 73, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born November 3, 1944, in Noble County, son of the late Alfred V. and Wilma Harper Swain. He worked in oil fields and retired as a bus driver for Caldwell Exempted Village Schools. Butch was a member of the Green Valley Church of Christ and Sharon Lodge #136, F&AM. He loved doing mechanic work, and he enjoyed motorcycles and camping. He had a great sense of humor, and he was devoted to his family, especially to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Alfred R. “Ronnie” Swain; one step-son, Timothy C. Bettinger; one grandson, Jason Allen McAfee; and an infant sister, Lucetta Jane Swain.
Surviving are his wife, Martha E. “Marty” Morrison Bettinger Swain, whom he married May 14, 1978; two daughters, Roberta K. McAfee of Caldwell and Rebecca S. (Michael) Hesson of Quaker City; his step-children, Denny (Patty) Bettinger of Caldwell, Doug (Kelly) Bettinger of Caldwell; Theresa (Skeeter) Hamrick of Webster Springs, West Virginia, Bridget (Bob) Berens of Naples, Florida, Nita Cool (Bryan King) of Dexter City, Dawn Bettinger (Mason Morris) of Caldwell, and Patsy (Butch) Warner of Summerfield; three brothers, William (Martha) Swain of Caldwell, James (Cheryl) Swain of Senecaville, and Daniel (Cheryl) Swain of Caldwell; 37 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Monday, April 9, 2018, from 11AM-1PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1PM. Burial will follow at South Olive Cemetery.
