Obituary for William David "Dave" Fleming
William David "Dave" Fleming, age 88, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Monday, June 25, 2018, at SE Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge. He was born April 29, 1930, in Pittsburg, Kansas, son of the late Bill and Charlotte Cardwell Fleming. He was a 1949 graduate of Caldwell High School, and he graduated with honors from Ohio University in Athens with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Dave was the owner and operator of Fleming Insurance in Caldwell for many years, and he served as the Noble County Auditor from 1979-1999. He was a very active member of the Noble County Community, having served on many boards and committees. He was former president and member of the Noble County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Caldwell Retail Merchants. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club, which was later remaned the Noble County Service Club, and he was an active member of the Caldwell Fire and Rescue for 12 years. Following retirement, Dave became a member of Caldwell Village Council, and he was called "my favorite substitute teacher" by many students in Noble, Guernsey, and Washington County Schools. He attended the First Prebyterian Church in Caldwell. Dave enjoyed fishing, running, walking, and lifting weights. He also enjoyed following politics.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Fleming Cook.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Naomi K. Recher Fleming, whom he married June 15, 1968; two sons, David Michael Fleming of the home and Christopher Matthew (Kari) Fleming of Ashville; his grandchildren, Meaghan, Jessicah, Matthew, Ryan, and Luke; one brother, Dr. Timothy (Marilyn Schott) Fleming of Seattle, Washington; and a special niece and nephew, Jill McCandless and John Daughetee.
Friends may call Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. The funeral service will be observed Friday, June 29, 2018, at 11AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 532 North Street, Caldwell, with Rev. Mary Jane Knapp officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
