Obituary for Dorothy M. Hannum
Dorothy M. Hannum, age 85, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Sarahsville. She was born March 13, 1932, in Reidsville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Willie and Fannie Scott Stokes. She was employed by Parkside Restaurant in Caldwell, Hamilton Beach-Scovill in Byesville, and she retired as a custodian for Belle Valley Schools. Dorothy was the youngest person to go through the chairs for the Pocahontas Lodge in the state of Virginia. She was a member of the Belle Valley United Methodist Church and she attended the Caldwell United Methodist Church. She was a member of Noble County Ripples Cancer Support Group and for many years was faithful to walk in Relay for Life for Guernsey and Noble Counties. She was also a member of the Belle Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post #641. Dorothy loved walking, playing bingo, going to church, reading her Bible, collecting angels, and shopping with her dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Tony” Hannum, Sr., whom she married in 1951, and who died October 6, 1997; one son, Bernard “Tony” Hannum, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Hannum; and two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are her children, Wilma A. (Gary) Edgar of Sarahsville and Bill (Ruth) Hannum of Byesville; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Roe of Senecaville and Dorthea Snyder of Caldwell; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, October 20, 2017, from 4-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Saturday, October 21st at 11AM with Pastor Jim Cooper officiating.
